Manufacturer or Assembler? Most Battery Pack Manufacturers Won't

Ask ten suppliers if they "manufacture" batteries in India, and nine will say yes. Push a little further, ask where the cells actually come from, and the story changes fast.

Most battery manufacturing companies in India are really import-and-assemble operations. Cells land from overseas, get wired into a pack locally, and the label says "Made in India." Technically true. Practically misleading, especially if you're buying for a project that needs to last a decade.

Where the Real Difference Actually Shows Up

Some suppliers control sourcing top to bottom. Others just wire together whatever lands on the dock that week. While we at Ashbee Energy manufacture the LFP cells completely from scratch, no middleman markup baked into the price. The BMS, cabinet build, grid connection — all handled in-house rather than farmed out to three different vendors who never talk to each other.

That's more work on our end. A longer chain of suppliers means more to track and more that can go wrong. Worth it, though, because the alternative is a pack that fails at year six instead of year twelve, and nobody notices until it's their problem.

LiFePO4 Holds Up Where Older Chemistries Don't

Run temperature is the first thing that separates a LiFePO4 lithium battery from an older NMC pack. Cooler by design, and it takes more charge cycles before performance starts dropping off — something that matters daily once a system is doing regular peak shaving.

Backup power is where this really shows. A battery sitting idle for six months, doing nothing, then suddenly needing full output the moment the grid drops — that's a stress test most chemistries fail eventually. Not LFP, generally. Ten years of service isn't rare for a well-built system, assuming someone's actually maintaining it.

Questions Worth Asking Lithium-Ion Battery Suppliers

Price per kWh gets all the attention during negotiations. Fair enough, it's the number everyone compares. But ask about warranty length too, and whether service continues past year one or vanishes once the invoice clears.

Plenty of lithium battery pack manufacturers quote a great number upfront and go quiet once support actually becomes the question. But we at Ashbee ties every system to a 5-year warranty with an in-house AMC, not outsourced to a third party that takes 2 weeks to respond to a support ticket.

Scale plays a part here too. The Ghiloth facility in Rajasthan — 70,000 square feet once fully commissioned — is being built for 2 GWh of annual battery pack capacity. Lead times usually shrink when volume like that comes online, not the other way round.
